The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, Nikola Selaković, has met in New York today with the Minister of Foreign Affair of Venezuela, Felix Ramon Plasencia Gonzalez.

Selaković said that Serbia and Venezuela had long-term friendship and reminded that this year was the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

He mentioned the connection of the two countries which dates from the Non-Allied Movement and Minister Selaković was particularly pleased because Minister Plasencia had confirmed his presence in Belgrade at the memorial gathering on the occasion of the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the First conference of the Non-Allied Movement.

The Serbian Foreign Minister thanked for the continual support of Venezuela to the topic of our greatest interest, that is, the unambiguous attitude on the non-recognition of unilaterally declared independence of so-called Kosovo as well as consistent support provided to us in international organizations.

Selaković estimated that economic and industrial cooperation of Serbia and Venezuela were insufficiently developed and highlighted our interest in their improvement.

The intensification of the top-level cooperation was discussed and Minister Selaković emphasized that it would be of great importance as well to have political consultations at the level of the two ministries of foreign affairs.

Minister Gonzalez thanked for the support of Serbia to Venezuela and emphasized that Serbia was the greatest European friend of Venezuela.
